RPET – The Responsible Choice

Environmentally Responsible: Plastic water bottles are becoming a growing segment of the municipal solid waste stream around the world. The American Chemistry Council estimates that the average consumer uses 166 plastic water bottles each year and that 2.5 million plastic bottles are thrown away every hour. While plastic water bottles offer convenience, they also create unnecessary waste in landfills. By recycling plastic water bottles, Pakway are making a positive impact on the environment in several ways in- cluding reduced waste, resource conservation, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and decreased pollution.

Economically Responsible: Recycling can provide an efficient alternative to traditional disposal of materials to landfill. Collection and disposal of plastic bottles currently costs UK local councils £100 million every year. This cost will rise with the planned landfill tax price increase. The plastic bottles being landfilled are a valuable resource – if sold they would generate over £27 million in revenue. Landfill is the inefficient option – there is market capacity and demand for collected and sorted plastic bottles, together with proven collection and handling technology.
